Milans La Scala Philharmonic Orchestra to perform in Plovdiv

La Scala Philharmonic Orchestra (Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala) will perform a special concert at Plovdiv’s Roman amphitheatre on September 19, starting 8pm, Dnevnik daily reported.

The artistic director, Ernesto Schiavi, has confirmed the date of this exceptional performance, because the orchestra has been booked for the upcoming four years and Bulgaria was not part of its tour engagements.

As of now, it has been announced that the concert will have a duration of 100 minutes, but the programme is yet to be announced. It is quite possible that as a friendly gesture to its Bulgarian audience, the musicians will include a work by a Bulgarian composer, Plovdiv mayor Slavcho Atanassov was quoted as saying by website plovdiv24.bg.

Atanassov has also offered that concert tickets are sold at a symbolic price, perhaps no more than five leva, with the proceeds will be donated to the local secondary music school in a form of financial aid for talented students.

La Scala Philharmonic Orchestra had its first concert in 1982, conducted by the group’s founder Claudio Abbado. Since then, it has performed at famous musical and cultural centres around the world. Some of the world-renowned conductors who had worked with the group include Leonard Bernstein, Wolfgang Sawallisch and Zubin Metha, among others.
