Veggie dining mom-and-pop style
A new organic bakery and vegetarian restaurant
The bad news is that Slunce Luna bakery, whose whole-grain delicious breads quickly gathered a large following, is closing down. Thankfully, the business is staying in the family and a new small bakery and restaurant by the same name and with the same philosophy has just opened on the corner of Knyaz Boris and Gladstone Str. Svilen and Elisaveta, former owners of the Veggie Home – a once-venerable vegetarian restaurant that closed last year – will now treat guests in a much smaller, mom-and-pop eatery.
You can drop by to buy one of their fresh-baked organic breads. Actually, you may want to buy two because I halved mine on the way home. The grains are ground on the spot and the loaves come out of the oven right in front of your eyes. You may also choose to share a seat with other guests on one of the two large wooden tables, and sample Slunce Luna’s vegetarian daily menu. On a recent Monday, it featured a tomato salad with goat cheese, fresh basil and olive oil (five leva) and a green salad with rucola (4.50 leva), red lentil soup (two leva), Thai tofu with soy sprouts, broccoli and other veggies (6.50 leva) and spring gyuvech – a vegetable stew with potatoes, zucchini, eggplant, carrots, and other veggies. Some salads and appetisers are available for take-away.
